...urbs salvia... urbis salvia

On Friday morning you can make a visit to the wonderful archaeological site of Urbisaglia. It is a visit that winds down the slopes of a hill along pleasant paths for about a kilometre. It will give you an understanding of the structure of a typical ancient Roman city in its entirety.
The monumental structure of the ancient city of Urbisaglia still remains today. The city is laid out according to a coherent and unified urban plan developed and launched during the age of the Emperor Augustus and continued by Tiberius. The work was carried out by wealthy citizens as a service to their emperor.
At the highest point of the city is the water tank, used to collect and to filter the water coming in from an aqueduct before feeding it into a distribution system for the city. The water tank, which is accessed via a narrow corridor, consists of two linked tunnels lined with mortar with a hydraulic capacity of 1,000 cubic metres.
Further down the hillside is the Theatre, one of the biggest in Italy and the only one retaining substantial traces of painted plaster. Built by Consul Gaius Fufio Gemino in the years before 23 AD, it is on a hilly slope in the Greek style.
Today the Amphitheatre hosts an important season of classical ancient theatre during July and August in a magic setting.

In the afternoon – following a lunch that will sample the wonderful flavours of the great Marche cooking tradition- we will visit commercial outlets. Mymarca.com will be our guide, accompanying us with skill and professionalism along a shopping route of curiosity. We will visit the most important Marche firms. The provinces of Macerata and Ascoli Piceno are famous for the production of footwear (Tod's, Paciotti, Fornarina, Fabi, Black Gardens, Bikkembergs, Santoni, Prada, Geox, Manas, Le Silla, Loriblu, Alberto Guardiani , etc. ..), of leather goods, of ancient crafts and artisan workshops.
The tour will end in late afternoon following a visit to a cellar for a tasting of DOC wines.
